The Supriya Story

Growing up in upstate New York during the 1970’s and 80’s, as the daughter of Indian immigrants my Mom and Grandma would mix turmeric with yogurt as a facial treatment, ginger and clove for tooth and gums, and they would use coconut oil to condition and massage the scalp. I grew up listening to the benefits of natural treatment to nourish, heal and soothe the mind, body and spirit. Our ancient, holistic traditions started in India more than 3,000 years ago. The natural world provides us with a way to self-nurture and balance our bodies. This is what I was always taught.
As a teenager I rejected these “home-made” remedies, opting instead for whatever products I could find with girlfriends in the drugstore aisles. The well-known products we all used were created with various chemical ingredients - all promoting some form of healthy skin or beauty. For a good ten years I, like most Americans, did not really question or think about the chemicals I slathered on my skin every day.

Then over twenty years ago when I became a mother, I found myself voraciously interested in every product that I would apply to my babies’ skin.  What I found myself doing was exactly what my Mom and her Mom did which was creating homemade products using natural and non-synthetic ingredients.  The practice of blending herbs and essential oils started to make much more practical sense when it came to the overall health and wellness of my family. Even though both of my sons are now grown up, I have not stopped learning, seeking, and creating such products.

Today I live in Southern California where fragrant herbs such as lavender, rosemary, and mint grow abundantly.  I feel so fortunate to have these healing herbs around me everywhere. Thus, Supriya products were born.  I hope you will enjoy them as much as I do. Included on our website is poetry and writings that perhaps will move you to try your best to live a mindful lifestyle.
